Cross River Labour: Workers Shut Out Head of Service,Commissioners Over Eight Months Unpaid Salaries
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, have shut Cross River State Secretariat Complex where most of the Ministries including that of Local Government Affairs and the state’s Head of Service were domicile over alleged eight months unpaid salaries.
The action of the labour unions which commence on monday took a new dimension Tuesday when the aggrieved workers threatening to extend the protest to other government ministries departments and agencies should the authorities fail to address their grievances.
According to some labour leaders who spoke with our correspondent Rasheed Olanrewaju on Condition of Anonymity said total industrial action should should be expected if the ongoing action fail to yield the desired result, explaining that labour had exhausted all other avenues including dialogue and singing of agreement to pay the affected local government staff in October 2016 .
As at the time of filing this report,the Labour leaders and the representatives of the government led by the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner For Finance have been in a close door meeting to resolve the impasse.
